A roadworthy test is a safety inspection carried out to ensure that a vehicle meets the minimum legal requirements to be driven on public roads. During the test, key safety components such as brakes, tyres, lights, steering, and suspension are checked.

If the vehicle meets all requirements, a roadworthy certificate will be issued.

A roadworthy certificate is generally required when:

• A vehicle is sold or ownership changes
• A vehicle used for carrying passengers for reward is required to undergo roadworthy testing annually.

A roadworthy inspection usually takes between 15-20 minutes for the actual test and 10 minutes for the paperwork, depending on the vehicle and how busy the testing station is. We recommend allowing extra time during peak periods.

Having the correct documents will help ensure a smooth and efficient process. To complete your roadworthy test, please bring:

• The vehicle being tested with a valid license disc or temporary license permit
• A valid South African ID or driver’s licence of the person presenting the vehicle for roadworthy
• The vehicle’s registration certificate (NaTIS document), if available

If your vehicle does not pass the inspection, you will receive a defect report listing the items that need attention.

Once the necessary repairs have been completed, the vehicle can return for a re-test within the allowed time period, which is 14 days from the date of the test.

A roadworthy certificate is valid for 60 days from the date of issue. It must be used within this period for registration or change of ownership.

• Tyres & wheels
• Lights & electrical systems
• Windscreen and wipers
• Seatbelts & mirrors
• Exhaust system
• Vehicle structure & undercarriage

We offer a pre-test inspection service. This allows us to identify any potential issues before the official test, helping you avoid unnecessary delays and improving your chances of passing the first time.

Most vehicles can be tested on a walk-in basis. However, during busy periods, it is advisable to contact us in advance.
